Do what you love…

Or in this case write about random things that you enjoy and at least there’s a grain of self-satisfaction to be gained. Hope this becomes your outlet dad…Happy Father’s Day

For anyone who stumbles upon this blog, you can’t have more than a, oh, 5 minute conversation with my father before some mention connecting itself to food or drink arises.  That’s where this idea arose as a Father’s Day gift…let someone else hear about it!

Really, I hope this provides you (the reader and my dad) with a way to, if nothing else, keep all those recipes and ideas in one place.

Here’s a link to one of my favorite new liquor companies –

They make all organic liquors in flavors like elderberry, chipotle, dark chocolate and, my favorite, tres chiles. They don’t overpower but they do provide that extra kick or spin that separates a good drink from an outstanding one. Here’s an example I’ve modified from a drink I get in Norway quite often at a bar called Aku-Aku ( )

  • 3 parts aged rum that has soaked with a chile with slices in its side for a few hours (a good mid-range golden rum like Bacardi 8, no Captain Morgan’s here)
  • 2 parts Thatcher’s Tres Chiles liquor
  • 1 part gomme syrup (a bit like simple syrup but much thicker)
  • juice from 1/2 lime
  • pineapple juice
  • orange juice
  • fruit for garnish (blueberries work well)

Slice another chili (use red) and place in shaker with lots of ice. Mix alcoholic ingredients and top with a mixture of 3 parts pineapple juice to one part orange juice.

Strain into a tall glass (ice optional…I prefer none).

Garnish with fruit and a chile.
